SINGAPORE – After holding several leadership positions over the last 30 years at IT firm Accenture, Teo Lay Lim will be taking over as the CEO of SPH Media Group. On March 1, she will take over from veteran journalist Patrick Daniel who is currently the interim CEO.

The announcement to this effect was made by the SPH Media Trust (SMT), the holding company of the group, earlier this week. Last year, Singapore Press Holdings had decided to convert its core business into a non-profit organisation due to the falling advertisement revenue.

Before making the move, 58-year-old Teo was the chairperson for the Singapore  branch of the IT giant. She has also worked with various ministries of the country including education, trade and industry, communications and information. In fact, she is the chairperson of the Polytechnic & ITE Quality Assurance Framework  External Review Panel for the Ministry of Education currently. She is also serving on the boards of several companies.

In the press release issued about Teo’s appointment, the organisation said this about her: She is a seasoned business leader who has a track record of building businesses from the ground up. Ms Teo started up Accenture’s Customer Relationship Management practice in 2000, and Accenture Analytics and Accenture Sustainability Services in 2008, when these were still emerging sectors.

Chairman of the Trust, Khaw Boon Wan believes that Teo has an acute sense of creating opportunities for commercial growth. “Most importantly, she possesses a passion for building and transforming people and organisations for the long-term. The Group looks forward to working closely with Lay Lim on strategies to underscore its vision and mission to produce trusted quality journalism,” he further said. He also thanked Daniel for coming out of retirement to take on the role of interim CEO.

On her new appointment, Teo said: “I am honoured to be given the opportunity to lead the SPH Media Group as CEO during these exciting times. As we work to keep pace with a very dynamic media landscape, I will be working closely with my colleagues in our transformation journey to create trusted products for our always connected audiences.”
